The town, Zaheerabad in the district Medak is regarded as a renowned commercial centre of the area. The town was renamed from Badi Ekkhelli or Akkampalli to Zaheerabad in memory of Md. Zaheeruddin, the eldest son of an Aristocratic Sufi Islamic family who had been quite influential in the area.
Besides being a commercial centre, Zaheerabad is also a very fertile area. Hence agriculture is also taken up as the primary occupation by many in the town. The land in the town is typical red soil that gets sticky during the rains and turns into a fine powder during the summers. The uniqueness of the soil is the red sandstone soil. The town is also known for many legends and myths about the area. The Kethaki Sangameshwara Swamy temple, a famous temple in Zaheerabad is also known for the legends associated with its construction. This temple is also known as Astha Theertha Amrutha Gundam or Dakshina Kasi. It is said that Lord Brahma was the creator of this temple. Lord had meditated in this place after having created the World.
Unfortunately, the town had suffered the brunt of the Nizam’s rule. In the modern era, this town had again seen destruction due the Hyderabad Police Action. However, it has also seen many developmental activities undertaken by the businessmen and the Government in recent times. Industries like the Sugar Refining, Chemical Manufacturing, Tyre manufacturers and rubber manufacturing are flourishing in the town. These industries are also providing employment to the local youth.

Zaheerabad can be reached by availing the private taxis and buses on the Hyderabad, Pune Expressway. The town is some 102 km from Hyderabad.
Zaheerabad can also be reached by the Public bus transport from Hyderabad. One can find the bus in frequent intervals from Hyderabad.
Nearest Railway Station:
Zaheerabad town has its own Railway Station. One can reach the town by train as well. The four direct trains from Hyderabad provide the best facilities to the visitors to reach the destination.
