1 July 2015 Tirupati: President of India Mr Pranab Mukherjee has offered prayers to Sri Kapileswara Swamy and Sri Kamakshi Ammavaru in Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple at the foot of Tirumala hills in Tirupati, This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva on Wednesday. Dr Pranab Mukherjee offered special puja’s to Navagrahas which is located inside the Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple.
Shiva is the main deity and he is worshiped as Kapileswara. According to legends, Sage Kapila Maharishi did ardent penance for Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati appeared themselves and gave darshan to the maharishi and blessed him. Here the Shiva Lingam is believed to be Svayambhu (self-manifested) and is known as Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple.
The Pallava’s, Vijayanagara’s, Tirumala Mahants and many other kings has developed this historically Temple. The Greatness of this Kapileswara swamy is mentioned in the Kulothunga Chola inscriptions.
The President has also visited Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru temple which is located at Tiruchanoor neat tirupati.
Andhra pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Governor Mr. Lakshmi Narasimhan, Tirupati Joint Executive Officer Mr. P.Bhaskar, temple SplGrDyEO Smt Chenchu Lakshmi, Mr.K.T. Deputy EO Mr.Balaji and other officers and priests were also present.
