Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is an Indian film director. He was Born on 21 September 1931 in Udayagiri, Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh to a Telugu family. He has directed films in all south Indian languages viz., Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. He made his directorial debut with the Telugu Film Neethi Nijayathi in 1972.
He has directed several movies, including Pushpak, Mayuri, Taram Marindhi, Vichitra Sodarulu, Michael Madhana Kamarajan, and Aditya 369. He worked as assistant director under Harindranath Chattopadhyay and as assistant director with K. V. Reddy, starting in 1954. He directed about 60 films in various languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and English. He won many awards for his work including National Award, Nandi and L V Prasad awards. Currently he is working on a film about the life of Jesus Christ with Pawan Kalyan, scheduled to be released in 2011.
He wrote a song which was included in Bhairava Dweepam (1994). He composed music in Kannada for Rajkumar’s films. The Kannada film journalists association printed a special book on Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, a distinction received only by a few. He also directed an English animation film called Son Of Aladdin which had 1100 shots and total 125 characters. He introduced music director Pravin Mani through his film Little John. Before Singeetam started working for movies, he wrote for magazines such as Bharati. He scripted many plays, including Brahma, Antya Ghattam, and Chitrarajuna. Chitrarajuna was translated into English and played in Western countries.
