This temple at Nandalur Mandal of Kadapa district is home to the 7 feet high Lord Soumyanatha. It is a sprawling, beautiful temple with exquisite sculptures. Nandalur Soumyanatha Swamy Temple can be reached in 2 min by walk from town. This temple resembles Chola culture and architecture and was built in the 11th century. This temple spans 10 acres and is a popular site in Vaishnava. There are inscriptions on the walls of the temple, dating from the 10th to the 17th century. This temple underwent renovations during the time of the Pandyas, Kakatiyas and Vijayanagar dynasties. During the Patiraja dynasty, this temple received great importance. According to the inscriptions on the temple walls, this temple has 120 acres of agricultural land, which is used for the development and maintenance of temple activities. There are sub temples for Prayoga Narasimha Swamy, Vinayaka Swamy, Anjaneya Swamy. There is also small pond opposite Gali Gopuram, within temple premises.

Nandalur Sri Soumyanatha Swamy Temple History:
This temple has four Raja Gopurams, which stand in four directions. Gali Gopuram was built by Someswara III in the 12th Century. South facing Gopuram was built during the Vijayanagara period. Mandapam inside the temple is built on 108 pillars. Inscriptions on Pillars explains Bhagavatham. The main idol Sri Soumaynatha Swamy is facing East.
The Idol here resembles the Idol of Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala Hills, the only difference is that the main Idol is in ‘Abhaya Hastham‘ whereas in Tirumala the Lord is in ‘Kati Varada Hastham‘ posture.
Great Poet Annamayya praised Sri Soumyanatha Swamy with 16 of his Sankeertanas.
There is a huge fish carving on the ceiling of the temple, belief is that one day this fish will turn alive and swim in the ocean. Temple is constructed with red stone. The pillars of the Mandapam (porch) have lion’s heads at the bottom of the pillar.
