About Varalakshmi Viratam / Vratam / Vrat:

Varalakshmi fasting is observed on the last Friday of Shravana Shukla Paksha which occurs a few days ahead of Rakhi and Shravana Purnima.

Varalakshmi Vrat is proposed for both men and women. However, in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra regions, Varalakshmi Vrat is mainly observed by married women only. Varalakshmi Vrat is observed with the desire for worldly pleasures, which includes children, spouse, luxury and all sorts of earthly pleasures.

Varalakshmi Vrat is very popular in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, where married women observe Varalakshmi Vrat for the well-being of their husbands and family members. Worshipping Goddess Vara-Lakshmi on this day is believed to be equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi or ‘the eight Goddesses’. Sri, Bhu, Saraswati, Priti, Kirti, Shanti, Tushti and Pushti are the eight Goddesses referred to here.

In North Indian states Varalakshmi Puja is not much popular as in South Indian states. Varalakshmi Vratam is one of the most auspicious days to please Goddess Lakshmi and to seek her blessings.
