Great Lakes Sri Balaji Temple

About Great Lakes Sri Balaji Temple:

We are happy to announce that the Sri Balaji Great Lakes Temple has been established to exhibit the Vedas and learn the art of Vedic Song, the Vedic texts, thousands of years old, are presented in Sanskrit and contain the wisdom that remains relevant to the challenges we face in the modern world.

The act of chanting gives life to these texts, as well as to the person who listens and recites. In addition, the center will teach yoga and meditation. Yoga is a 5000-year-old physical and philosophical discipline of India that unites the mind and body through breathing work, or pranayama, and postures, or asanas.

Meditation is an exercise, in order to prevent thoughts in a natural way, to deeply relax the physical body, then to try to keep it completely “empty” without any thought. The mind reached during meditation is essential to access the Higher Self.

The Great Lakes Sri Balaji Temple will hold regular Vedic chant, yoga, meditation and Hindu scripture classes for the public.

Great Lakes Sri Balaji Temple History:

The Great Lakes Balaji Temple was formed in October 2004, provides a forum to worship Sriman Narayana and preserves and follows the established traditions of Srivaishnava Sampradayam. The protocol for worship of the Lord by Vaikanasa Agama Sastras was followed in the great Vaishnava temples in India, such as Thirumala Thirupathi Temple and Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple. Sri Bhagavath Ramanuja had elaborated and codified other protocols and had them established in all Sri Vaishnava temples.

Religious Practices:

As a result, the Vedic center of Balaji houses the Utsava Moorthis of Sri Venkateshwara, Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Boodevi, Sri Sudharsana (Chakarathazhwar) and Sri Hanumanji. The Temple also has a dedicated Sri Vaishnavite priest, Sri Sadagopan, who daily performs Aradhana and Pooja through Vedic traditions. According to the prescribed rituals, Kalyana Utsavam for Lord Venkateshwara is played every day, whether there are sponsors or not. Special Thirumanjanams (Abhishekams) are played at appropriate times and on all special occasions. Venkateshwara, Mahalakshmi, Sudharsana and other Homas are periodically executed to invoke the prosperity of the community. The priest also serves the Indian community by providing priestly services in the residence / place of devotees as requested.

Religious and Cultural Outreach:

Special music and dance programs are organized for special occasions and are free for all. We also conduct various classes, such as Bhagavath Gita, Meditation, Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, Samprathaya Bhajan, Sthora Parayanam, Upanishads and Yoga classes. There is no charge for any class. We also organize monthly concerts of Carnatic, Hindustani and religious spiritual discourses, which are very popular.

Our long-term vision is to build Sri Venkateswara Temple in Michigan for many future generations in North America. The temple is where it is today, only because of the generosity and support of donors like you. While we gratefully acknowledge the past commitment and support of the community, both moral and financial, we call you on behalf of the Temple for your continued sponsorship in the coming years. We ask you to become a member of the temple and to make your contribution. We welcome your feedback when suggesting improvements to facilities and services.

Temple Growth:

The temple bought the property @ 3325 Middlebelt Road, West Bloomfield. This new home measures approximately 4 acres and has a built area of approximately 22,000 square feet with 16 spacious bedrooms and is already divided into areas for religious purposes. This larger temple will not only be a quiet and serene place of worship, but also a learning center of our rich Hindu culture and traditions such as the Vedas, Divya Prabhandham, Sthothram, for all ages. Over the next few years, we expect the temple to be more like a traditional Sri Balaji temple.

It is important to note that this growth has occurred without special advertising or special fundraising efforts. We hope that many new members will participate in the activities and that the Temple will develop rapidly.
