Hanamkonda Bhadrakali Temple History:

The temple is said to have been built in 625 AD. by King Pulakeshin II of the Chalukya dynasty to commemorate his victory over the Vengi region of Andhra Desham, according to the writings on the temple wall.

The kings of Kakatiya later adopted the temple and regarded the goddess Bhadrakali as their “Kula Devatha” and later kept Kohinoor Diamond as the left eye of the idol. Ganapati deva also built a lake adjacent to the temple. Due to the fall of the Kakatiya dynasty to the Delhi Muslim rulers, the temple has lost its importance. The Kakatiya negotiated a truce with Allauddin Khilji offering the diamond in return for not being invaded. He sent his slave and personal confidant Malik Kufur to personally transport the diamond.

In 1950 the temple was renovated by Sri Ganesh Rao Sastri Devi upasaka with Gujrati businessman Shri Maganlal. B.Sameja, founder of the Shri Bhadrakali temple. Warangal Bhadrakali Devi blessed Maganlal Sameja in his dream and told to renovate the temple.

The history of the Koh-i-Noor diamond; Part of the British Crown Jewels, is closely associated with this temple as it was installed, like the left eye of the goddess Bhadrakali by the Kakatiya dynasty.
