Importance Pedda Sesha Vahanam, Symbol of Alertness

Tirumala 3/10/16: The annual brahmotsavas are commenced with the Pedda Sesha Vahana Seva which is the beginning of the total nine day brahmotsava celebrations. This is started on Monday evening at the hill of Tirumala.

The lord is made to sit elegantly flanked by his two consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi on his either sides on a mighty serpent with seven heads vehicle, the pedda sesha vahanam, the lord Malayappa Swamy as he took a ride of celestial value in the four Mada Streets of Tirumala on the evening of Monday.

According to Bhagavad Gita lord Krishna said that I am Anantha among the serpents. Anantha or Adisesha is an infinite serpent who is divine and has an endless coils and floating on the water of the creation on which the Para Brahma sits.
Anantha also represents the eternal materiality or a primal energy that is infinite and called as the Mula Prakriti. And even in the reality snakes are considered as the symbol of alertness. They also signify the raise of awareness in the world through meditation. They also represent the flow of energy that is raising and flowing and the same is altered and also restfulness. They are representing the eternity and the materiality and also life as well as death.

So when the divine lord is riding on the seven hooded serpent the mighty Pedda Sesha Vahanam the lord is sending a message to all his devotees they are symbolizing the life and creation and preservation and also the destruction which are three phases that are important.

The Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Dr D Sambasiva Rao and TTD trust board member Sri AV Ramana and Dr Hari Prasad and the deputy temple EO Sri Rama Rao and the Peishkar and Sri R Selvam and other devotee took part in this.
