॥ કૌપીન પંચકં (શંકરાચાર્ય) ॥
કૌપીન પંચકમ્
Five Stanzas on the wearer of loin-cloth
વેદાન્તવાક્યેષુ સદા રમન્તો
ભિક્ષાન્નમાત્રેણ ચ તુષ્ટિમન્તઃ ।
વિશોકમન્તઃકરણે ચરન્તઃ
કૌપીનવન્તઃ ખલુ ભાગ્યવન્તઃ ॥ ૧॥
Roaming ever in the grove of Vedanta,
Ever pleased with his beggar’s morsel,
Wandering onward, his heart free from sorrow,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (1)
મૂલં તરોઃ કેવલમાશ્રયન્તઃ
પાણિદ્વયં ભોક્તુમમન્ત્રયન્તઃ ।
કન્થામિવ શ્રીમપિ કુત્સયન્તઃ
કૌપીનવન્તઃ ખલુ ભાગ્યવન્તઃ ॥ ૨॥
Sitting at the foot of a tree for shelter,
Eating from his hands his meagre portion,
Spurning wealth like a patched-up garment,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (2)
સ્વાનન્દભાવે પરિતુષ્ટિમન્તઃ
સુશાન્તસર્વેન્દ્રિયવૃત્તિમન્તઃ ।
અહર્નિશં બ્રહ્મસુખે રમન્તઃ
કૌપીનવન્તઃ ખલુ ભાગ્યવન્તઃ ॥ ૩॥
Satisfied fully by the Bliss within him,
Curbing wholly the cravings of his senses,
Delighting day and night in the bliss of Brahman,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (3)
દેહાદિભાવં પરિવર્તયન્તઃ
સ્વાત્માનમાત્મન્યવલોકયન્તઃ ।
નાન્તં ન મધ્યં ન બહિઃ સ્મરન્તઃ
કૌપીનવન્તઃ ખલુ ભાગ્યવન્તઃ ॥ ૪॥
Witnessing the changes of mind and body,
Naught but the Self within him beholding,
Heedless of outer, of inner, of middle,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (4)
બ્રહ્માક્ષરં પાવનમુચ્ચરન્તો
બ્રહ્માહમસ્મીતિ વિભાવયન્તઃ ।
ભિક્ષાશિનો દિક્ષુ પરિભ્રમન્તઃ
કૌપીનવન્તઃ ખલુ ભાગ્યવન્તઃ ॥ ૫॥
Chanting Brahman, the word of redemption,
Meditating only on `I am Brahman’,
Living on alms and wandering freely,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (5)
॥ ઇતિ શ્રીમદ્ શઙ્કરાચાર્યકૃત કૌપીન પઞ્ચકં સમ્પૂર્ણમ્ ॥
