॥ കൌപീന പംചകം (ശംകരാചാര്യ) ॥
കൌപീന പംചകം
Five Stanzas on the wearer of loin-cloth
വേദാന്തവാക്യേഷു സദാ രമന്തോ
ഭിക്ഷാന്നമാത്രേണ ച തുഷ്ടിമന്തഃ ।
വിശോകമന്തഃകരണേ ചരന്തഃ
കൌപീനവന്തഃ ഖലു ഭാഗ്യവന്തഃ ॥ 1॥
Roaming ever in the grove of Vedanta,
Ever pleased with his beggar’s morsel,
Wandering onward, his heart free from sorrow,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (1)
മൂലം തരോഃ കേവലമാശ്രയന്തഃ
പാണിദ്വയം ഭോക്തുമമന്ത്രയന്തഃ ।
കന്ഥാമിവ ശ്രീമപി കുത്സയന്തഃ
കൌപീനവന്തഃ ഖലു ഭാഗ്യവന്തഃ ॥ 2॥
Sitting at the foot of a tree for shelter,
Eating from his hands his meagre portion,
Spurning wealth like a patched-up garment,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (2)
സ്വാനന്ദഭാവേ പരിതുഷ്ടിമന്തഃ
സുശാന്തസര്‍വേന്ദ്രിയവൃത്തിമന്തഃ ।
അഹര്‍നിശം ബ്രഹ്മസുഖേ രമന്തഃ
കൌപീനവന്തഃ ഖലു ഭാഗ്യവന്തഃ ॥ 3॥
Satisfied fully by the Bliss within him,
Curbing wholly the cravings of his senses,
Delighting day and night in the bliss of Brahman,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (3)
ദേഹാദിഭാവം പരിവര്‍തയന്തഃ
സ്വാത്മാനമാത്മന്യവലോകയന്തഃ ।
നാന്തം ന മധ്യം ന ബഹിഃ സ്മരന്തഃ
കൌപീനവന്തഃ ഖലു ഭാഗ്യവന്തഃ ॥ 4॥
Witnessing the changes of mind and body,
Naught but the Self within him beholding,
Heedless of outer, of inner, of middle,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (4)
ബ്രഹ്മാക്ഷരം പാവനമുച്ചരന്തോ
ബ്രഹ്മാഹമസ്മീതി വിഭാവയന്തഃ ।
ഭിക്ഷാശിനോ ദിക്ഷു പരിഭ്രമന്തഃ
കൌപീനവന്തഃ ഖലു ഭാഗ്യവന്തഃ ॥ 5॥
Chanting Brahman, the word of redemption,
Meditating only on `I am Brahman’,
Living on alms and wandering freely,
Blest indeed is the wearer of the loin-cloth . (5)
॥ ഇതി ശ്രീമദ് ശങ്കരാചാര്യകൃത കൌപീന പഞ്ചകം സമ്പൂര്‍ണം ॥
