The Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple in Mattapalli is one of the Pancha Narasimha Kshetras.
This Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple is one of the oldest and most impressive and ancient temples of Telangana. It has an idol of Yoga Narasimha Swamy, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The deity has a body armor or Kavacham made of silver and a mustache. The face of the shrine is that of a fierce lion as the incarnation of Vishnu here is shown as half man and half lion. The history of the temple is said to be dated back to 13th Century.

This temple is located in the Mattapalli village in Nalgonda district, 25 km from Huzurnagar Taluk and is considered as one of the Pancha Narasimha Kshetras. There are three idols of Sri Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Swami, Sri Rajyalakshmi Thaayar and Sri Chenchu Lakshmi Thaayar.

Many Lord Narasimha Swamy temples of Telangana are housed within caves. This Yoga Narasimha Swamy temple is also located in a cave. The Sanctum Sanctorum towards the west is reached by a tapered walkway. The main hall where the shrine is placed is huge and measures 24 feet x 45 feet. Comprising of 21 pillars below a cement roof, there is another hall smaller than the previous one on the north door with 5 pillars.
Some finest specimens of rock sculpture can be found in this temple. One such striking piece of art is found capping the main door of the sanctum sanctorum showing the theme of Gaja Lakshmi. It shows two elephants facing each other with their trunks raised up. Another beauty is the sculpture of Lord Narasimha found on the Garbha Griha seated in the yogic posture of Padmasana and holding a Chakra in his upper right hand and Sankha in his left hand and resting his lower left hand on his knee. However, his lower right hand is not to be seen. Yet another sculpture is that of the divine serpent Shesha giving the impression as if spreading its hood over the Lord’s rock sculpture and measuring about 1 foot in height.

Towards the left of the rock sculpture is the stone image of Lakshmi, the associate of Lord Vishnu. The Goddess can be seen sitting on a lotus with the Makuta or crown on her head and her upper hands holding lotus. The Abhaya and Suchi postures are seen on her lower hands. Another vigraha of Rajya Lakshmi can be seen below this image, mounted for devotees to offer observances to the Goddess as the original idol of Goddess Lakshmi is not accessible to them.

The absence of the pradakshinapath around the sanctum sanctorum makes this Yoga Narasimha temple distinctive from other temples of Telangana. In order to complete this customary, the pious devotees round the holy pillars or the Dhwajasthambha. Instead, they can also circle the stone image of Hanuman facing the main idol.

This Yoga Lakshmi Narasimha temple located on the banks of the River Krishna, it has steps from the river leading to the temple to help devotees. There is also the Ramanuja Kutam or the kitchen in the temple where the Naivedya is prepared.

This Narasimha Swamy Temple is another feather in the cap of Telangana architecture. It has rock sculptures of Gods and Goddesses which are honored and worshipped by many pios devotees. The temple received huge footfalls in the months of January for Vaikuntha Ekadasi and May during the Kalyana Mahotsava. Both these festivals are celebrated with great splendor and joy.
