Temple History:
About 8 km from Guntur town is an ancient village called Pedakakani having mythological significance and housing the idol of Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamy varu. People here believe that the worshipped deity, Bhramaramba Devi is one of the Ashtadasa Sakthis. Sri Malleshwara Swamy is one of the Jyothirlingams of Srisaila Kshetram and hence the prayers offered to this deity is equivalent to the worship of Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy of Srisaila Kshetram.

Sri Bramaramba Malleswara Temple Rahu Ketu

Long time ago, the famous Maharishi in Maharshi Gnanam, Sri Bharadwaja Maharshi visited all Theerthams and also visited this temple and prayed to the deity. He also wished to perform Yagna Krathuvu and thus invited all the Maharshis and performed the yagnam. During the offering of Havisses, a crow started having this due to which Bharadwaja Maharshi became very disappointed. He tried in vain to stop the crow from having the Havisses kept for the Yagna Purushas. The crow then informed that she was ‘Kakasura’ who has got a boon or ‘Varamu’ of having the Havirbhagalu dedicated to the Devathas from Brahma after performing thapassu or penance. She also ordered him to perform Abhishekam to her with panchamrutham, etc. The crow then got white color and worshipped the deity with Jasmins and from then onwards, the Lord came to be called as “Sri Malleswara Swamy varu” and the Kshetram became popular as “Kakani”. Devotees believe that this crow is used to worship the deity after returning from Manasa Sarovaram. There is a well on the east part of the temple dug by Sri Bharadwaja Maharshi and Maharshi Pungavas has brought various Theerthams and stored in this well making the water of this well “Holy” and filled with antibiotic abilities.

In 1440 AD, Sri Krishna Devaraya of Vijaya Nagara Empire paid a visit to this temple and provided financial support for the renovation of the temple as advised by the ministers “Renturi Chittarusu”.

Belief:
A well on the east of the temple called as ‘Yagnala Bavi’ has a belief that Sri Bharadwaja brought water from all Holy rivers and stored them in the well. Till present day, people believe that a glass of water from this holy well cures them from all diseases and keeps them hale and healthy. Another belief is that the God here is “Korina korekalu theerche Devudu – Kakani Devudu”. It is also true that King Sri Krishna Devaraya got a son after praying to Sri Malleswara. Thus, people believe that the God blesses them with ‘Santhanam’ or children. Many marriages are made in this temple with utmost devotion and faith.
