Tirumalagiri Venkateswara Swamy History:

There are several interesting legends associated with the temple. It is believed that there was an Ashromam in the form a hill, which was named after Sage Bharadwaja, on the other side of Krishna River at Mukhtyala Village in Jaggaiahpeta. Once, Sage Bharadwaja was performing a severe penance seeking the blessings of Lord Sreemannarayana, the Omnipotent and Omniscient god who can fulfill human desires. Pleased with the penance, the Lord appeared on the Tirumalagiri hill with a wonderful manifestation in the form of an “Ant hill” with 12 namams.

Sage Bharadwaja became very happy and after bringing water from the Krishna River, he performed “Abhishekam” and pooja. From then onwards, the recitation of “Bharadwaja Gothrams” has been performed during the time of daily worships. The festival of Kalyana Mahostvam is celebrated every year during Chaitra Suddha Pournami. Thousands of devotees from various parts of the state visit the temple and participate in the celebrations.

In “Koneru” there is a form of the foot of the Lord which is a delightful experience that inspires the devotees. As per another belief, Anjaneya Swamy guards Lord Venkateswara around the hill and rules the area of Malleswara Swamy. In the temple premises, there is also a temple of “Varaaha Swamy”.
The temple is open for pilgrims every day from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, no devotee will climb the hill to go to the temple.
