Tirupati Kodandarama Swami Temple Timings, History, Sevas

Tirupati Kodandarama Swami Temple was built by Narasingha Raja Mudaliar, Chola king during the tenth century AD. Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple is situated in the heart of Tirupati town, Andhra Pradesh. The presiding deities are Seethamma Thalli, Sri Rama Swamy and Sri Lakshmana Swamy. This temple has separate shrines for Lakshmana and Sita Devi.

The temple of Anjaneya Swami, which is directly opposite, is a sub-shrine of this temple. According to legend, this temple commemorates the visit of Sri Rama to Tirupati. The festivals of Ugadi and Sri Ramanavami are celebrated in this temple on a grand scale. Brahmotsavam is celebrated at this temple every year.

This great temple has a history of more than a thousand years. During the 15th century, when Sri Krishnadevaraya was king, this temple got renovated and improved. On the outside walls of the Mandapas, you can see symbols and signs from the Vijaya Nagara dynasty. There’s also a big and impressive wall surrounding the temple.

This Sri Rama Temple is  2 km from Tirupati Railway Station and 24 km from Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple. The temple is maintained by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust.

The Tirupati Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple is open from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day. You can visit the Kodandarama Swamy temple in Tirupati from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Please note that the Kodandarama Swamy temple is closed between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Tirupati Kodandarama Swamy Temple History:

According to Varaha Purana, during Treta Yugam, Sri Rama, along with Goddess Sita Devi and Lakshmana, had resided here on his return from Lankapuri. Kodandarama Temple Tirupati was founded by the Cholas in the tenth century AD. The present-day Kodandarama Temple is administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board.
