5-04-2016, Tirumala: The present Andhrapradesh and Telangana Governor Mr. ESL Narasimhan has attended the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam ceremony in Tirumala hills in reference to Telugu Ugadi festival which falls on April eight. The Governor has participated in the traditional cleaning festival in the temple.
Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam Meaning:
Koil means Holy Shrine
Alwar means Devotee
Tirumanjanam means Cleaning with aromatic ingredients
During the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam ceremony all the gold & silver articles are removed from the processional deities and Mula Virat for cleaning and Tirumanjanam. While cleaning Mula Virat is fully covered by a waterproof cover. Sanctum santorum, Garbha Griham, sub-shrines, floors, ceilings, walls and puja articles were cleaned with water and Tirumanjanam.
Tirumanjanam is a mixture of camphor, sandal paste, saffron, turmeric Kicchili Gadda (a root vegetable)
Tirumanjanam acts as a disinfectant.
Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is observed for all these festivals Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Vaikunta Ekadasi and the Annual Brahmotsavams at Tirumala
Tirumanjanam is starts from 6.00 am and ends at 10.00 am.
After 11.00 AM devotees are allowed for Srivari darshanam
