DC ISKCON Temple History:
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a worldwide movement dedicated to the philosophy and practice of Krishna Consciousness, also known as Bhakti Yoga.
ISKCON DC, located in the Potomac, is located on 12 acres of beautiful woodland. The main building of the temple is the home of ISKCON’s first Krishna deity in America and is the center of the community here.
Srila Prabhupada is the Founder-Acharya (Spiritual Master) of ISKCON. He left India in 1965 and a movement around the world flourished from a small temple in New York. Temples, schools, farms and restaurants have been developed under his direction and guidance. In eleven years, he traveled around the world fourteen times, met with academics and statesmen, and inspired men and women from all walks of life to bring Krishna Consciousness. Srila Prabhupada left this world in 1977.
