Karuna Bhavan’s Story:
The first ISKCON temple that was established in Scotland was in Dundee in 1971, which was later moved to Edinburgh in 1972. The temple was moved to Glasgow in 1981.
It was not until 1986 that the temple, now in Lesmahagow, took a secure stance and went from the first three monks to 40 local members with hundreds of followers and thousands of followers. The original little temple was called Karuna Bhavan, which is the Sanskrit name of the House of Compassion, and it has become a thriving organic farm, a spiritual education center and a wonderful place for retreats.
