Moundsville ISKCON New Vrindaban New Vrindaban’s History:
One of Srila Prabhupada’s most cherished wishes was to establish the new Vrindaban community in America. He spoke at length about building a replica of Vrindavan India, where there are seven main temples. In 1968, the New Vrindaban Community was founded in West Virginia to fulfill Prabhupada’s dream of an ideal society based on Krishna consciousness or the love of God. When Prabhupada established the first guidelines for such a community, the idea seemed out of reach for the small group of faithful who struggled during a harsh winter in a small dilapidated farmhouse. There was no electricity or running water in their only building, a battered pioneer hut. But when Srila Prabhupada had a vision of “seven temples on the seven hills,” suddenly, all the obstacles seemed insignificant to his followers. By 1972, the community had grown from 100 acres to 500 acres.
The New Vrindaban Holy Dham is located in the beautiful and peaceful Appalachian Mountain, in the rural area of West Virginia Panhandle. This spiritual community has been a place of pilgrimage for many thousands of visitors each year.
Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Chandra Mandir, the main hall of the temple, is the main attraction of many wonderful attractions of the new community of Vrindaban and is usually the first stop for all visitors and pilgrims. Currently, the construction of Radha Gopinath Mandir, the second of seven temples, is underway to complete Srila Prabhupada’s vision of seven temples on seven hills.
