About Thiruvananthapuram Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Temple:
Located in the center of the city of Thycaud, this temple was humble as a small office for ISKCON in Kerala 26 years ago. Close to the train station and the airport, and just a stone’s throw from Padmanabha Swami Temple, this temple has welcomed visitors from around the world who are eager to take a look at Padmanabha Swami. The temple even grants Hindu certificates to foreigners who wish to enter the temple. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu visited the temple of Padmanabha Swami 500 years ago and in memory of this visit, his lotus feet were installed inside Padmanabha Swami’s temple near the eastern gate. In front of the temple pond, there is also a banyan tree where Lord Chaitanya rested and which is now guarded by Nagas as the core of yoga. His preaching of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra still resonates in the Abhedananda Ashram.
Although the beginnings were modest, the temple gradually expanded with the congregation and a beautiful temple hall was built for the deities of Lord Gauranga and Lord Nityananda. Greater wooden deities were brought from Bengal to stay with the devotees here permanently. Little by little, Lord Narasimha Dev and his wife Lakshmi Devi began to accept our worship.
Recently, Goverdan Shila and Shaligrams have also appeared here. Now all the festivities of Vaishnava take place beautifully outside the daily schedule of arathis as in all the temples of ISKCON.
With the blessings of H.H. Jayapataka Swami Maharaj, we purchased almost an acre of land at Pravachambalam, Trivandrum, to build the permanent residence of the deities.
