Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple is located in Kapila Theertham and stands majestically at the foot of the Tirumala hills. This temple is located just 4 km from the Tirupati bus terminus. From Tirupati railway station, it is about 5 km. The Sri Kapileswara Swamy schedule is 5.00 AM to 9.00 PM.
The Devotees visit Kapila Theertham for the Lord’s blessing at Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple and visit the majestic Kapila waterfall, which is also considered divine. During the month of Karthika, on the occasion of the Full Moon Festival, there is a congregation of all theerthas of three worlds, including heaven, earth and hell, in the Kapila Teertham. According to the beliefs, if a devotee bathes in this holy water of Theertham, they will be free from the sins of this world and will get Moksha with Shiva’s blessing.
The temple receives countless worshipers, especially during the annual Shivarathri festival. Another good time to visit Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple is during the annual Brahmotsavam festival, when it actively participates with other shrines in Tirupati. Kapileswara Swamy Temple History:
Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple is a famous Lord Shiva temple under the foot of Tirumala hills in Tirupati. According to legends, this temple was named after the great saint Maharishi Kapila, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Satisfied with his unwavering dedication and devotion, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati Devi gave him his divine darshan at this place. At the same time, a Kapila Lingam appeared outside the Earth.
It is believed that Sri Kapileswara Shiva Linga is a self-created form of God Shiva, also called the Lord Shiva Svayambhu form. At the same time, the holy lake Sarovara was born in front of the temple. According to some legends, Kapila Maharishi came to Earth through the opening created across the lake.
Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple has been revered since ancient times. Its history shows that many great empires and sages have worked on developing this temple, including the Pallava kings, the Vijayanagara kings and the Tirumala Mahants. Historically, the description of this temple dates back to the 10th century and has been referenced in the ancient inscriptions of the Kulottunga Chola Kingdoms.
