About Puruhuthika Ammavaru – 10th Shakti Peetham:

Pithapuram, formerly known as Pithikapuram. This is the tenth Sakthi Peeta in Asthasdhasa Shakthi Peetas. Here, Sathi Devi was dishonored and left her life near Yaaga. After the detention of Dhaksha Yajna, God Shiva took the corpse of Sathi Devi on his shoulders and wandered the world. Sri Puruhuthika has a golden bowl in the lower left hand, the Madhiphala fruit in the lower right hand, the drum in the left hand and a metal rod in the right hand. She is placed in Srichakra Peetha and fulfills all wishes and gives health to her devotees. This was said by Srinada Kavisarvabhowma to Bheemakanda Sloka.

Sri Raja Rajeswari Devi is a powerful goddess worshiped in Pithapuram. This goddess is supposed to fulfill all of our wishes. There is a fascinating Creeper in the temple. About Dattatreya Birth Temple:

The son of sage Atri and Anasuya was Dattatreya, who had three forms of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara. He was born in Paadagaya Kshetram in Pithapuram. This is written in the fifth chapter of Gurucharita written by Sree Vasudevada Saraswati Swamy as follows.

In the delta plain of the Eela river, in Pithapuram Kshetram there lived Sumati and Appalaraju sarma shrotriya Brahmin couple. They practiced vedickaramas with holiness. Sri Raja Simha Sharma made sacrifices to satisfy devas, forefathers sages and Brahmins. Sumathi also followed her husband in all aspects, doing the service of her husband as a true devoted wife by Purvajanmakarma, they had no children. The two sons born to them were blind, deaf and dumb. So, they were feeling sad. They always worshipped Dattadevi in padagaya kshetram with utter devotion.

Afterward, Raja Simha Sharma came and knew this news and felt glad. He thought that it was not an error to give bhiksha and that it would satisfy his forefathers. Then they finished the ceremony. Dattatreya was born as their son Sri Paada Srivallabha to Sumathi and Raja Simha Sarma couple. Swamy showed many leelas even in childhood. He took sanyasam in boyhood, he removed the physically Challenged nature of his brothers at his mother’s request. He showed Jnanayoga to the devotees and fulfilled their desires. By his powers, he made foolish people into wise men, the poor into the rich, blessed the couples without children and gave them children, and ordinary people into lords. Sripada Sri Vallabha was born in Padagaya Kshetram, Pithapuram. The old temple here is a divine place.
