Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple is located in the center of China Town at the junction of Keong Saik Road and Kreta Ayer Road. The temple is administered by the Chettiars Temple Society. Nagarthars, also known as Nattukkottai Chettiars, are famous money lending communities belonging to the Southern part of Tamil Nadu, India.
Built-in 1925, the temple is located in the busy commercial area of Singapore and attracts hundreds of devotees belonging to all races.
The popular festival Vinayagar Chathurthi is celebrated in a grand manner at this temple. The annual Thai Pusam festival is also celebrated here. During the festival, the Holy Spear (Holy Vel) in this temple is taken in a procession in Silver Chariot to Tank Road Sri Thendayuthapani Temple and poured the milk offered by devotees.
Every week, between Thursday to Sunday, a lot of devotees perform 108 Programs (circumambulation around the Sanctum) to fulfill their oaths. Even devotees from other races also perform this rite.
There are three Vinayagar idols and a Holy Spear at this temple and its devotees are blessed with peace and prosperity.
