Sundara Kanda begins with Hanuman’s heroic leap to Lanka. In simple words, it is nothing more than Hanuman’s journey to Lanka. In all Kanda’s of the Ramayana, the focal point is Lord Rama. But Sundara Kanda focuses on Lord Hanuman. It is Hanuma defeating Ravana’s army, meeting Maa Sita, meeting Ravana, setting Lanka on fire and finally reporting to Sri Rama about Sita Mata. The whole chapter is beautiful, so it’s called Sundara Kanda. It is also called Upasana Kanda. It conforms to the concepts of Advaita, Dvaita and Vishistadvaita. The meaning of all Kanda is Tatva Masi.
At the end of the Parayana, one must recite this sloka
Yatra yatra raghunatha keertanam
Tatra tatra kruta mastkanjalim
Baashpa vaari paripoorna lochanam
Marutim namata rakshasaantakam
Wherever or whenever the praise of Sri Rama is sung, invariably Maruti, the destroyer of demons, appears there with folded hands and bowed head, with tears in his eyes.
