Bomma Bomma Tha Thaiya Lyrics in English | Vinayagar Song

“Bomma Bomma Tha Thaiya” has long been immortalized as the ‘Nrtta Ganapati Song’ by the legendary Bengaluru Ramani Ammal. However, the language and meaning of this rendition have remained mysterious. It appears to be in Sanskritized Saurashtrian, and here is our best attempt at translating it.

The essence seems to be this:

“Ganapati, like dolls, sits everywhere for us to worship. Just invoking his name sweetens our tongue. A few taps on our temple enhance our intellect. Whispering a few mantras at that time reduces evil thoughts and forces. Since his birth is heralded by music played by Vishnu, Narada, and others, let’s play those instruments to make him dance to our tunes.”

Mahaperiyava says, “The name ‘Pillaiyaar’ for Lord Ganesa comes from the fact that Ganesa is the ‘pillai’ (child) of the first couple of the Universe, Shiva and Shakti. When ‘pillai’ is referred to reverentially, it becomes ‘Pillaiyaar.’ Ganapati needs no temple or puja and thus does not cause differences among people due to his worship. He sits anywhere like a doll (bommai). As people pass by, they tap their temples and do thoppukaranam, and that’s his worship.” This mirrors the essence of the song.

There are three types of dance:

Nritta: dancing to thalam
Nritya: dancing to thalam with expressions
Natya: dancing to thalam, expressions, and dialogues

“Bomma Bomma Tha” is a Malayalam song released in 2013. It is from the album “Gam Ganapathe,” composed and sung by Jayashree Rajeev. The song is 5 minutes and 31 seconds long.
