The town, Zaheerabad in the district Medak is regarded as a renowned commercial centre of the area. The town was renamed from Badi Ekkhelli or Akkampalli to Zaheerabad in memory of Md. Zaheeruddin, the eldest son of an Aristocratic Sufi Islamic family who had been quite influential in the area.
Besides being a commercial centre, Zaheerabad is also a very fertile area. Hence agriculture is also taken up as the primary occupation by many in the town. The land in the town is typical red soil that gets sticky during the rains and turns into a fine powder during the summers. The uniqueness of the soil is the red sandstone soil. The town is also known for many legends and myths about the area. The Kethaki Sangameshwara Swamy temple, a famous temple in Zaheerabad is also known for the legends associated with its construction.
