The annual festival of this temple begins with Kodiyettam (ceremonial flag hoisting) on 15th of the Malayalam month of Makaram (January) and ends on 22nd Makaram with the holy bath (arattu).

Kadalayi Sri Krishna Temple History:

The temple is associated with a number of legends in the Puranas. The main idol lord Vishnu is incarnated here as an idol worshipped by Sathyabama who was the consort of Lord Krishna in Dwaraka as mentioned in the Mahabharata. It is believed that Satyabhama, while praying the idol of Maha Vishnu and performing pooja failed to notice that her husband was standing next to her. Frustrated by this, he kicked off the idol from its location. The idol was then found in the deep sea with its right end side broken. Somehow the idol was brought to Dwaraka accidentally by a fisherman. During that time, Kolathiri Raja was the major ruling king. At that time the king who had already constructed a temple in the Kadalayi village which is 6 km away from north Paravur was searching for a perfect idol. The idol was taken to astrologist and was given positive inputs that resulted in the Kadalayi temple. Though the temple is located in Chirakkal the temple is famous by its old name called Kadalayi.
