About Sasthamangalam Shree Mahadevar Temple:
Shasthamangalam Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located near Paipinmood Junction in the Shasthamangalam ward of the Trivandrum, Kerala. It is located on top of a hill, preserving the spiritual tranquillity of the sanctuary. According to the available records, the temple is more than seven hundred years old and has been visited regularly by the kings of Travancore. It is administered by Travancore Devaswom’s Board of Directors.
The temple is ideally located on a hill. On the east side, a small river called “Killi” flows. Although the temple is within the city limits, a calm and serene atmosphere reigns here.
In this temple, the main deity is Lord Shiva. Outside the temple on the banks of the Killi River, the idols of Badrakali and Veerabhadran, Nagaraj and Nagayakshi were consecrated. Like the Chowallur Mahadeva temple here, the seven divine mothers are venerated as idols made from Krishna Sila. There is no idol or sanctuary for Parvathi Devi in this temple.

Sasthamangalam Shree Mahadevar History:
The origin of this temple resembles the history of some other famous temples. A woman who was mowing the grass to feed her cows was sharpening her knife against a large piece of stone. She was afraid to see blood coming out of the rock where she had applied the knife. This news was transmitted and the inhabitants found themselves at the spot. After further examination, it was convinced that the stone was called “Shiva Lingam” and that it was dedicated to this place and that the temple was built.

Sasthamangalam Shree Mahadevar Temple’s annual festival is celebrated for 10 days and begins on Dhanu -Thiruvathira Star day and ends by Aarattu ceremony on the tenth day.
Shivaratri is also celebrated in a grand manner in Sasthamangalam Shree Mahadevar Temple.
