Somnath, which literally means “lord of the moon” is a pilgrimage center and is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is a town that derives a large part of its identity from mythology, religion and the legends which surround it.
Mainly a temple city, Somnath is a place where a strong aroma of religion and legends lasts around tourism and even everyday life. Its spiritual environment is adorned by a large number of temples in the region, but Somnath also offers beaches, museums and other attractions. While the Somnath Temple and Somnath Beach are the main places to visit here, Gita Mandir, Balukha Tirtha, the Kamnath Mahadev Temple and the Somnath Museum are some of the other places that can be visited.
