Lord Murugan or Subramanya is elder son of Shiva and Parvati and hence the brother of Sri Ganesha. Sri Subramanya Ashtakam, also known as Swaminatha Karavalambam is an octet composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, praising Lord Subramanya. Shri Subramanya Ashtakam is recited to get rid of all present and past birth sins. The stotra is an octet composed by Sri Guru Adi Shankaracharya, praising Lord Subrahmanya. Swaminatha Ashtakam has 8 stanzas similar to Astakams and each stanza ends with sentence Vallisa Nadha Mama Dehi Karavalambam asking Lord Murugan to extend a hand of support and save the devotee. Sri Subramanya is worshipped on Tuesday and Sunday for getting rid of Kuja – Mars dosha, Sarpa Dosha in one’s horoscope. Married couples desiring progeny generally offer prayers to Subramanya in serpent form.
