Intresting Facts of Kapisthalam Temple:

Kapisthalam Sri Gajendra Varadha Temple is the only Kshetram where Sri Maha Vishnu gives darshan on his Garuda Vahana and gives salvation to elephant and Crocodile.

This temple is one of the five Pancha-Kannan temples, where Krishna, an avatar of Sri Vishnu is given prominence over the presiding deity.

The temple is believed to have been built by the medieval Cholas of the late 8th century AD, later contributions from the kings Vijayanagar and Madurai Nayaks. A granite wall was built surrounds the temple to protect from water bodies.

Kapisthalam Sri Gajendra Varadan Temple History:

One of the 108 Divyadesams is a very famous ancient temple since Perumal gave darshan to Gajendra and a crocodile and gave them salvation.

A king named Indradyumna was a ardent Vishnu devotee and, because of deep meditation, he did not recognize Durvasa and encouraged a curse to be born as an elephant. The prescribed redemption was in the hands of Mahavishnu. At the same time, a demon named Koo hoo liked to joke swimmers by grabbing their legs underwater, Agastya cursed him for being born as a crocodile and his redemption was also in Mahavishnu’s Sudarshana chakra.

When elephant Gajendra entered the water, the crocodile held his legs and the elephant called Mahavishnu to help him “aadhi moolame” and Lord Vishnu arrived on garuda vahanam and killed koo hoo and released both Gajendra and koo hoo.

Thirumazhisai Alwar sang about this man as Aatrangarai kidanthan Kannan in his mangalashasanam. This center is therefore one of the Pancha Krishna Kshetrams with Thirukannamangai, Thirukannapuram, Thirukoilur and Thirukannangudi, where Kannan refers to the president.
