Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will now have the world’s tallest statue of Sri Hanuman at Pampapur Kishkindha. The statue, which will be located on the outskirts of Hampi, will be 215m tall and an estimated sum of INR 1,200 crore has been allocated for its construction.
Swami Govind Saraswati, President of the Hanuman Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, announced the construction of the statue after meeting with Acharya Satyendra Das, chief priest of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The birthplace of Lord Hanuman, Kishkindha is also the place where Rama first met Hanuman.
According to reports, donations to build this statue would be collected from the public through Raith Yatra. The statue will be limited to 215 meters as members of the Hanumat Janmbhumi Theertha Kshetra Trust believe that the statue of Hanuman cannot be higher than the 221-meter statue of Lord Ram being built in Ayodhya as he was their eternal devotee.
Presently, the world’s tallest Hanuman statue is at Madapam, Narasannapeta Mandal of Srikakulam Andhra Pradesh. It stands at a height of 176 ft. Though the Madapam Hanuman Swami is the tallest Hanuman statue currently, the one being constructed in Hampi will truly be a sight to see.
