About Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa:
Ramakrishna Jayanti is celebrated in honour of a well-known and revered saint by the name of Ramakrishna during the period between 1836 to 1886. Being born to a religiously-inclined Brahmin family in Hooghly District from West Bengal, Saint Ramakrishna put forth his utmost faith towards Goddess Kali by turning into a priest at the famous Kali temple located in Dakshneswar. As his name spread around he came to be referred to as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa by his followers and disciples.
Ramakrishna saint got married to Sarada Devi who also turned towards spiritualism. Among his various disciples, one name that stays in mind is Swami Vivekananda who worked in total dedication for his guru Ramakrishna. Subsequently, Swami Vivekananda proceeded further to build the famous Ramakrishna Math and took up the responsibility of spreading the Hindu-based spiritual movement to other parts of the country and world. The Hindu calendar mentions the birth date of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa as Dwitiya during Shukla Paksha in the month of Phalgun. Thus, the birth anniversary of Saint Ramakrishna is celebrated as per the date in accordance with the Hindu calendar in all the established Maths of Ramakrishna cadre.
