About Randhan Chhath:
In Gujarat, Shitala Satam is observed on Krishna Paksha Saptami in Shravana month. Randhan Chhath, also spelled as Randhan Chhat, is a very significant day which is observed one day before Shitala Satam, as per Gujarati calendar.
Randhan Chhath is not an independent festival but it is associated with Shitala Satam, which is a religious festival dedicated to Goddess Shitala Devi. Randhan Chaath is an introductory day for Shitala Satam Puja. On the day of Shitala Satam, all kinds of cooking are prohibited. Hence, most Gujarati families make necessary food arrangement on Randhan Chhath day that will be sufficient for the next day. Since the day is important for cooking, it has got its name “Randhan Chhath” which means “cooking on the sixth day”.
