About Kali Chaudas:
Kali Chaudas is also called Bhut Chaturdashi. Kali Chaudas festival is mainly celebrated in Western states especially in Gujarat.

Kali Chaudas is observed during Chaturdashi Tithi during Diwali festivity. However Kali Chaudas day should not be mixed with Roop Chaudas and Narak Chaturdashi as it might fall one day before of Narak Chaturdashi. The day of Kali Chaudas is decided when Chaturdashi prevails during midnight which as per Panchang is known as Maha Nishita time.

Kali Chaudas is observed during Chaturdashi Tithi during the Diwali festival. However, the day of Kali Chaudas should not be mixed with Roop Chaudas and Narak Chaturdashi, as it will fall one day before Narak Chaturdashi. The day of Kali Chaudas is decided when Chaturdashi wins at midnight, which according to Panchang is known as Maha Nishita.

As the Kali Chaudas rituals involve visiting the crematorium at midnight to offer Pooja to the goddess of darkness and Veer Vetal, the day of Kali Chaudas is decided when Chaturdashi prevails during midnight.

It seems that most Panchangs do not make such a distinction and list Kali Chaudas with Roop Chaudas and Narak Chaturdashi. Therefore, one must be careful when looking for the date of Kali Chaudas.

Also Kali Chaudas should not be confused with Bengali Kali Puja which is observed one day after Kali Chaudas when Amavasya Tithi prevails during midnight.
