About Swami Vivekananda Jayanti:
Each year as per Hindu Calendar, India celebrates Swami Vivekananda Jayanti in memory of Swami Vivekananda who was a noble, spiritual, and saintly Hindu-cult monk. Born to a well-to-do Bengali family of Kolkata, Vivekananda while studying at college got deeply inspired by his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna and became his staunch devotee. According to the Gregorian calendar, Vivekananda was born on 12 January, 1863 while the Hindu Calendar mentions his birth to have taken place on Saptami day during Krishna Paksha which is in actual is a week after Paush full-moon day. Vivekananda followed the Vedanta-style of philosophy and went on to become a great orator and strong advocator of Hinduism. He worked hard in the spread of education and upliftment of the masses.

He went on to become the founder of the famous Belur Math, Ramakrisna Mission and the Ramakrishna Math. The demise of Swami Vivekananda took place in year 1902.

As a mark of respect and honor to Swami Vivekananda, the Swami Vivekananda Jayanti Day is observed every year in accordance to his Hindu Calendar birthday; therefore, it does not fall on the same English Calendar date.
