Shri Vallabh during his life gave Brahmasambandh to many Vaisnavas but from them Shri Hariraiji chose 84 Vaishnavas as ideal Vaishnavas and his stories (known as Vartas) were written for the Vaishnavas of today to follow Pushtimarg in the same way as the Vaishnavas had done.
Four of Pushtimarg’s Ashta sakhas, namely Shri Surdasji, Shri Kumbhandasji, Shri Krishnadasji and Shri Paramananddasji were Shri Vallabh’s disciples (the other four were the sons of his disciples, Shri Gusainji). All Ashta Sakhas have beautiful Kirtan (Devotional songs). In the praise of Lord Shrinathji, the Kirtaniyas still sing these Kirtans in the temples of Pushtimarg (The Vaishnavas who sing these Kirtans). The Kirtan in the Bhav that day are not compiled. These Kirtans form a large part Shri Surdasji is the most famous among the Ashta Sakhas, he lived 125 000 Kirtans during his life (108 years).
