Meena Sankranti, also spelled as Mina Sankranti, signifies the beginning of the last month in Hindu Solar Calendar. All the twelve Sankrantis in each month of the year are regarded as highly auspicious for performing Dan-Punya activities. However, only some definite time-frame, before or after the Sankranti muhurta, is considered auspicious for observing Sankranti related activities.
For Meena Sankranti, sixteen Ghatis after the Sankranti muhurta are considered very significant and all righteous activities can be performed during this time frame.
Donating land is considered to be highly auspicious during Meena Sankranti. In South Indian states, Sankranti is popularly known as Sankramanam.
