Ahmedabad BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Significance:
Bhagwan Swaminarayan first came to Amdavad as Nilkanth Varni in 1799 and stayed at Lake Kankaria. He visited the city many times, often celebrating the Fuldol festival here. He often bathed in the Sabarmati river, passing by a fruit orchard in the area known as Shahibaug. Lord Swaminarayan built the first mandir of Swaminarayan in the Kalupur area of Amdavad in 1822, installing the images of Nara and Narayan.
Ahmedabad BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir History:
Bhagwan Swaminarayan gave darshan to a devotee, Ashabhai, that a true upasana mandir would soon sprout in Amdavad. It was also Shastriji Maharaj’s desire to build a Temple of Akshar Purushottam in Amdavad. To this end, an old bungalow was purchased in the Shahibaug area, the fruit orchard that had been sanctified by Lord Swaminarayan. The bungalow became a small mandir of Hari and a small image of Lalji Maharaj was installed. On this site, Yogiji Maharaj later built a mandir of 5 towers and fulfilled the wish of his guru.

All clothing should cover the shoulders and knees. (Wraps provided) Leave all belongings / backpacks in your vehicle.

Please remove all footwear before entering Mandir’s compound. (Shelves of shoes provided inside the complex).

The photograph or video for personal use may be taken from the ground outside the Mandir only. We ask visitors to help us preserve the sanctity of the Mandir by not taking any picture or video in the Mandir. Please note that photography or video shooting inside the mandir is strictly forbidden. No photography or professional photo shoot is allowed with photographic equipment.

Please refrain from eating, drinking, chewing gum or feeding the baby in the Mandir. Outside food and drinks are not allowed inside the complex.
