Barkatpur Raghavendra Swamy Temple is a famous Raghavendra Swamy Mutt located at Barkatpura Road, Chitrapuri Colony, Bagh Lingampalli, Narayanguda, Hyderabad city, Telangana State.
Sri Raghavendra Swamy is the famous Madwa saint, philosopher and proponent of the “Dvaita” philosophy established by Sri Madwacharya. Sri Raghavendra Swamy was Mutt’s peethadhipati in Kumbhakonam from 1621 to 1671. Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born in 1595 to a Kannada Brahmin family of Timmana Bhatta (father) and Gopikamba (Mother) in Bhuvanagiri in Tamilnadu. His first name was Sri Venkatanatha which was later changed to Sri Raghavendra. Sri Raghavendra learned all about Sahitya’s and Vedas. He was also known as a teacher of Sanskrit and ancient Vedic texts.
In 1614 Sri Venkatanatha took Sanyasa dharma and adopted his name as Sri Raghavendra Teertha. He traveled to southern India to spread the Pavitra philosophy of madwacharya and is credited with various miracles. In 1671, after having assured his disciplines in a speech that he will be in spirit with them for the next 700 years. Sri Raghavendra Swamy attained Samadhi in “Mantralayam”.
From that day on, the devotees and their Shishyas prayed to Sri Raghavendra Swamy in Mantralayam and got Samadhi in Brindavanam. The Mathadhipati and the followers established Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matt throughout southern India. Barkatpur Raghavendra Swamy Mutt is one of those mutts.
Devotees who cannot go to Mantralay can perform Abhishekas and Archana in this Mutt. Devotees from many places come to this mutt and perform to Sri Raghavendra Swamy. The daily Archana’s and Abhishekams are offered to Lord Raghavendra Swamy in the Mutt.
