Basara Saraswathi Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Saraswathi. The temple of Basar is also the home of the Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Kali. The current structure dates back to the Chalukya period.
Basara Saraswathi Temple does not have exquisite carvings like other temples. Taking a few steps forward one enters the sanctum sanctorum, a feeling that is better experienced than described. A feeling of limitless peace, luminosity and joy envelops you. The presiding deity, ‘Gnana Saraswathi Devi‘, is seated with a ‘Veena’ in her hand and adorned with turmeric. Next to it is the shrine of the goddess Maha Lakshmi and a short distance to the east side is the Maha Kali temple.
