Chintadripet Aadhipureeswarar Temple History:
The creator Brahma, born from the navel of Sri Vishnu, began to create the world. He found a city before he even started creating it and wondered who made it. Sri Vishnu told him that he was created by Lord Shiva and is called Adipuri, which means the first and oldest city. Lord Vishnu advised Brahma to go to Tiruvottriyur and pray to Lord Siva, then start his work.
Lord Brahma came to this place and worshiped Lord Shiva. The Lord ordered the sea to advance (Othi) to facilitate the creation of Brahma. Hence, the place became known as Othiyur and over time it became Ottriyur or Tiruvottriyur.
