ISKCON Kolhapur was started in 1975. Sometimes they stayed in a Radha Krishna temple near the railway station. The beginning was in a little hut, where the preachers of Belgaum used to visit. This program was attended by 4-6 devotees. The preaching center was moved from the cabin to a small bungalow and then to Gujarati High School. By the grace of Sri Guru, Srila Prabhupada and Gauranga, the most important preaching project of building a temple in Kolhapur dham has now begun. 24,000 square feet of land were purchased for the temple project in a main area with great potential for preaching. The land is only 3 km from the Mahalaxmi temple.
