Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple is located at the feet of Western Ghats in Sullia Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District in Karnataka. In the past, Subramanya was called by the name Kukke Pattana.
In ‘Shankara Vijaya’ Anandagiri mentioned that Sri Shankaracharya camped here for a few days during his religious journey. Sri Shankaracharya referred this place as ‘Bhaje Kukke Lingam’ in his ‘Subrahmanya Bhujangaprayata Stotram’.
Sri Subrahmanya kshetra has been brilliantly described in the ‘Thirthakshetra Mahimani Purana chapter of the Sahyadri khanda comprised in the SanatkumaraSamhita of Skanda Purana. This Temple is located on the banks of the river ‘Dhara’ which originates in the Kumara mountain and proceeds to the western sea.
Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple History:
According to Mythology, after killing Tharaka Asura and Shurapadmasura with their followers in a war, Subramanya Swamy and Lord Ganesh and others reached Kumara parvatha (Kumara Hills). Indra and other devatas welcomed Lord Shanmukha. Indra being happy requests Lord Muruga to marry his daughter Devasena. Lord Kumara Swamy accepts immediately to marry Indra’s daughter. The divine marriage of Lord Muruga and Devasena took place on Margashira shudha shashti in Kumara parvatha. Lord Shiva, Brahmadeva, Sri Vishnu, Rudra and many other deities gather for the marriage and crowning ceremony of Subramanya Swamy, for the marriage waters from many holy rivers were brought. With these waters of Mahabhisheka fell down and formed a river which was later known as Kumaradhara.
The Snake king Vasuki the great Shiva Bhakta was performing tapas for years in the Biladwara caves of Kukke Subrahmanya to avoid the attack of Garuda. Following Lord Shiva`s words, Lord Shanmuka appeared in front of Vasuki and blessed him that he would stay with his parama bhakta in this place forever. Since then, it is behind that Lord Shanmukha (Skanda) in his spiritual presence is residing with Vasuki in the shrine.
Kukke Subrahmanya is one of the seven holy places created by Parashurama is mythologically and historically famous for “Nagaradhane”. Residing with Sarpa Raja Vasuki, Lord Subrahmanya showers his divine elegance on devotees as the presiding deity of the Kshetram. It is also called “Guptha Kshetra”. “Mruthika Prasada” given here is regarded as sacrosanct. The devotees believe that the holy bath in the Kumaradhara Thirtha and Madesnana eradicate dreaded diseases like leprosy. Diseases related to skin, the devotees firmly believe, get cured here. God Subrahmanya has earned the honorific title “Annadana Subbappa”. Thousands of devotees receive Annadana every day here. The devotees find solace here after performing “Sarpasamskara”, Naga Prathiste”, “Ashlesha Bali” for sarpa dosha, which causes barrenness/infertility, skin disease, blindness, bhoomidosha etc. God Subrahmanya is the destroyer of the sorrows of innumerable Janmas receives the Sevas of devotees done with devotion and dedication and fulfills their wishes and hence in Kaliyugh, he is behind as “Prathyaksha God” Devaru.
Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple Dress Code:
The administration of the Kukke Subramanya Temple requires male devotees to remove their shirts and vests before entering the temple premises. Clothing such as coats, hats, turbans, Bermuda, shorts and Lungi are not allowed inside the temple. Women are asked to dress decently.
For Men: White Pancha, Dhoti/ Normal Pant or Jeans Pant. No Vest or shirt allowed.
For Females: Saree with blouse/ Punjabi Dress with Dupatta / Chudidhar with Dupatta/ Half saree.

We are planning for Ashlesha Bali Pooja in kukke subramanya should we need to go home directly after performing pooja or after visiting subramanya swami temple? and Can we go for dharshan in other temples.As elders say ppl should visit dharmasthala first, subramanya swami at the end and also not to visit any places after performing pooja.

But don’t go to any relatives houses after dharmasthala darshan go to your home.
