The Masanikamma Temple, located in Periyapatna, Karnataka, is a place of worship dedicated to the revered Mother Goddess Shakti, known here as Goddess Masanikamma. Periyapatna Sree Masanikamma Temple is visited by devotees from various regions in Karnataka as well as from neighboring states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The primary deity of the Masanikamma Temple is the immovable murti of Goddess Masanikamma, which is worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum. However, a separate utsva murti is used during festivals and rituals.

The temple hosts two important annual festivals – Rathostsava in February-March and Navratri in September-October – which are celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion.

According to legend, a girl who worshiped a specific form of Mother Goddess was mistreated by her family and ultimately sacrificed herself by jumping into a boiling limestone. The fishermen who witnessed her death began worshipping her, and a voice from the heavens declared that she would bring peace and prosperity.

A few days later, an idol emerged from the limestone and became known as Urimasani, later renamed Masanikamma. Many kings in the region sought her aid in battle and worshipped her before going to war. Eventually, her devotees built a temple in her honor in Periyapatna.
