The Sanskrit word Kusa means grass. Kusasthalai or Nagari River is produced by Kusa by the great sage Agasthya Maharshi when he visited parts of southern India.
Note: the Kaveripakkam or Kallaru river is a tributary of the Kusasthalai and Koovam rivers.
