The Nizam Sagar Dam is a visitors’ point in the Nizamabad District in Telangana. The Dam has been constructed on the Manjeera River which is a tributary of the Godavari. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the ruler of the State of Hyderabad had built the dam in 1923 in an area between Achampet and Banjapalle villages in the district. The construction of the dam was completed only in 1931. The dam has been a savior for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in terms of water supply.
The Nizam Sagar Dam holds the world record for being the largest dam in the world stretching over an area of 3 kms by emptying 40 villages. The dam has a 14 feet motorable road built over it that allows the cars and buses a convenient access to the neighboring regions.
Truly Nizam Sagar Dam is a major dam of Telangana and an important source of water to Hyderabad.
The dam area has been developed into a major tourist spot with much scope for bird watching and fishing. Motor boating have been recently introduced to attract the tourists. Tourists from Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Medak, Karimnagar and other parts of Telangana visit the Dam for picnic, get together and other family festive occasions.
Tourists also have the options for staying back and watching the birds over a couple of days. There are many guest houses and lodges present in the area that ensure comfortable stay to the visitors in a reasonable budget.

The gigantic dam stretching over an area of 3 km over the River Manjeera is the most striking feature of the project site.
The recently introduced boating facilities act as a major attraction for most tourists.
Where to stay:
Tourists have the option to stay back at the Project site and enjoy to the maximum. There are some Guest houses and lodges available to the tourists that provide comfortable accommodations at reasonable rates. However, the tourists can also stay at Nizamabad which is about 55 kms away. The HarithaIndur Inn run by the state tourism development is one such place where the tourists find a good and comfortable accommodation.
How to reach Medak Nizam Sagar Dam:
Nizam sagar Dam can be easily accessed from Medak. However the nearest Railway Station being in Hyderabad, one has to get down at Hyderabad and reach Medak in a private transport and then proceed towards the Dam.
