Mohanur Navaladi Karuppannaswami Temple is an ancient temple in Mohanur, Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is Karuppu Sami, who is also known as Navaladian or Judge Durai or Pattamarathan. Chellandiamman is the Goddess here, She is holding weapons as Udukkai, trident and flower and kumkum appearing as the destroyer of a demon. Karuppanna Swamy is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and he is Swayambhu (self-manifested). The Lord is in the form of Peeta or a platform in a small pit. This Peeta is drawn with eyes, nose and tilak with sandal and dressed (Alankara) as a deity. A turban is also placed on the Peeta.

Three Vahanas are there at the entrance of the temple Nandi Vahana, Lion and 3 Horses. Saptha Kannikas – seven virgins – are in the front mandapam. The procession deity, made of wood is in a separate shrine with his consorts Bommi and Vellayammal.

Mohanur Navaladi Karuppannaswami temple was built 1000 years ago in the Dravidian style of Architecture. The midnight Puja called Sathya puja is Considered very important. Devotees submit their prayers in writing and tie them in the Pattamaram tree. Devotees visit this temple seeking solutions for debt burden, family problems, incurable diseases and suitable marriage alliances.

The Chera King Senguttuvan performed the field puja here before invading to the north. The Chellandiamman shrine is very popular. The pujas performed here are non-vegetarian.

Navaladi Karuppu Swamy Temple History:

Traders in the olden days were using this path for their travels. When they reached this place, it was night. They placed a stone brought by them under the Naaval tree and slept. The next morning they could not lift the stone. Sri Karuppusami appeared through a devotee and said that he had stayed there and advised them to build a temple. Devotees followed the order and constructed the temple.

As the deity had chosen the place under the Naaval tree, He is praised as Naavaladi Karuppuswami.
