About Parivaloor Siva Temple:

The walls of the temple illustrate the episodes of Mahabharata, Ramayana and several other notable Puranas. The temple is built in the 12th century. The main deity is Lord Shiva. This structure is called ‘Padippura’, which means house at the gate.

Pazhoor Perumthrikkovil is a Hindu temple located in Pazhoor, in the town of Piravom, Ernakulam District in Kerala. It is believed that the work of this temple was done by Perumthachan. Pazhoor Padippura is located 33 km southeast of Kochi, near Piravom, Kerala. It is an astrology center linked to the Pazhoor Perumthrikkovil temple. A unique phenomenon observed here is that the Muvattupuzha River flowing west of the east changes direction when it reaches the temple. It follows its path and flows east for some distance before turning again to the north and west. If the course of the river had not changed, the temple would have been razed.

Parivaloor Siva Temple History:

According to legend, many families of Brahmins lived in this region. The children belonging to these Brahman families had a very strict teacher. The children thought the teacher was very hard on them because they did not have children. So the children made an idol with sand and ‘payal’ and prayed to God to bless their teacher with a child. Satisfied with his devotion, the god fulfilled his wish. The idol of “paayal” gained the place name “Payaloor”, which later became “Pazhoor”.
