About Prabhupada Village:

The village of Prabhupada, ISKCON Temple home of the Holy Name Festival of India and the Bhaktivedanta Archives and comprises 365 acres is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, 64 km north of Winston -Salem and 60 miles north of Greensboro. The area is an impressive beauty, with lush hills and wide and varied trees. Snow Creek makes its way informally across the property and forests abound with wildlife, wild grasses, fruits and flowers. You can see all the stars at night because there are no street lights (or sidewalks). When night turns into day, we hear the buzzing of bees and the singing of several birds.

The village started in 1992 when Madhuha Dasa bought the property (subdivided and sold plots) with the aspiration to satisfy the desires of His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness ( ISKCON)) Srila Prabhupada wanted faithful to live a more independent life while protecting the lives of cows and bulls and developed varëäçrama where those of the society would work according to their natural propensities and serve Krishna or God. Srila Prabhupada also wished there were gurukula (schools) in the country where he is more conducive to practicing Krishna consciousness, far from the passions of urban life, and where children can grow and teach in a natural environment and healthy.

The early days of the village of Prabhupada challenged the determination and patience of all, as there was much to do. In a short time, two bright and spacious classrooms appeared and families started moving to the village. The school has grown. Everyone helped build new homes, each with its own unique architectural flavor. The inner roads were called Prabhupada Rd., Seeta Dr., Rama Rd., And Krishna Rd., All of which are on the county maps. Local people have seen the village of Prabhupada as an integral part of Stokes County and friendly relations with county residents continue to this day, mostly because of all the prasadam (sanctified food) that has been distributed.

The ground was broken for the temple in 1998 and, although there is still work to be done indoors, programs have continued there since 2005. The gardens offer beautiful flowers and vegetables offered to the Lord and visitors are impressed by the beauty. of the project.
