Sri Rama Konda in Koilkonda is a Famous Temple in Sourthern India. It is about 23 km from Mehabubnagar.
Temple History:
Sri Rama Konda is the name of the hill where Lord Rama in the Treta yug had put his foot during his stay in the forest along with his wife Sita Devi and his brother Laxmana during the vanavasam period. The footprint of the Lord is still visible on the hill. One would also find another stone on the top of the hill. This stone is named, Sitamma Gunda as there is a legend that Mother Sita Devi had sat on this rock. We can even see their place of residence that had later turned into the place of meditation by the sadhus and the sages.
There is also a legend that Sri Hanuman had flown over this hill while he was carrying the sanjeevani Hill to the battlefield to bring back the consciousness of Laxman during the battle between Sri Rama and ravana. During that time, a small part of the Sanjeevani Hill fell to the so called Srirama Konda hill. Then onwards this hill is also rich in medicinal plants like Peddamusti, Veramusti, Vishamusti, Nagamusti Nagamalle, Ponna, Naguru, Velga, Juvvi etc. Physicians from many parts of the country come down to collect the herbs for preparing the medicines. Devotees also come here with the belief of getting cured of the skin diseases. Having darshan of the Lord especially in Amavasya after taking the dip in the Koneru of the temple would cure them of their diseases.
The Srirama konda has temples on all the four sides. The Eastern side has the Veerabhadra Swamy temple, Anjaneya Swamy temple and Koilkonda fort whereas the Anjaneya Swamy temple and Koil Sagar Project are located on the Southern side.
